As director in development at Walt Disney Feature Animation I cooked up FRAIDY CAT, a Hitchcock-inspired suspense thriller with animals.
Oscar, a pampered strictly indoor-only-cat, lives in a cushy London apartment with his two goldfish friends Bernard & Herman and Frenzy (a Cockney house fly, who fancies himself a pet).
Accused by Doris, his owner, of eating the poor little stray parrot that wandered into their flat one night, Oscar has to brave the outside world in order to prove his innocence.
Turns out the little parrot, Rebecca, is the classic Hitchcock McGuffin, a feathered pawn with amnesia in an intriguing crisscrossing game of International Spy Chess.
Seriously cool development art by Disney legend Hans Bacher (more samples in his book Dream Worlds (Focal Press UK 2008)), beautiful character designs by Carter Goodrich and Harald Siepermann. pushed to give CG animation a fresh distinct look.
Sadly, FRAIDY CAT never saw the light of day and remains cryogenically frozen in the fabled Disney Morgue.
Maybe one day, when Disney himself is unfrozen, it will be revived.
