Most animated films are based on simple picture books. Their storylines have to be padded out to fill the 80 odd minutes a feature runs. The challenge here was to pair down the incredibly rich tapestry of Rushdie's fully realized novel to feature film length.

Over a number of drafts, I worked to find an elegant visual translation for HAROUN's world of ideas, remaining true to Rushdie's colorful 'bad-time' story about imagination and freedom of expression under threat.
